How Race & Leaderboard Tiebreakers Work in the ORL
With Season 11 coming up right around the corner, new faces in the league and returning veterans who've been out of the game for awhile could use this helpful tidbit of info to help them out. In Season 11 there will be six divisions, a few not all season, that'll be bound to have race tiebreakers at some point. Last season a couple racers asked how leaderboard ties work so it won't hurt to have the extra knowledge.
Race Tiebreakers
In specific divisions there will be separate races/mottos that are all part of the same event. In these races you'll earn points towards a cumulative score. These cumulative points will have one effect only: to determine where you, the racer, line up in the overall results. In other words, it's just a basic metric system. The leaderboard points you earn will decrease in single units like any of the other divisions.
A tiebreaker occurs when two or more racers earn the same amount of cumulative points from the races/mottos. Because America, the next Mountain Dew flavor, McDonalds, too many left turns, a clothing store called GAP that hardly does that much business, and bewbs; we apparently have the most complicated tiebreaker system known to mankind. No, really, it's not hard at all to understand. But I'll explain it anyways.
Race tiebreakers work like this:
A small race between those involved with the tiebreaker will happen on the same track used in the event. It's just a small 3 lap race, or whatever is the most appropriate depending on track parameters to determine a true winner to the tiebreaker.
Leaderboard Tiebreakers
A tie on division leaderboards occurs when two or more racers have the same amount of points earned from their respective best race finishes.
To determine who wins in the tiebreaker we follow this order (top of the list having more priority):
- Pokemon Battle
- Points Average
- Race Wins
- Race Podiums (2nd, 3rd)
- Race Finishes (4th, 5th, 6th, etc.)
- Improv Freestyle Rap Battle
- Having Cool Hats
Hope this was helpful to everyone!
